Good WORK... Monday April 4th 2011:
The following is what I read today, still on chapter 3:
-MAC addreess and ip adresses
- Address Resolution protocol which is ARP for short and ihat it does is to discover and store the MAC address of a host on the local network when only the IP address of the host is known. Three steps in achieving this:
1. The sending host creates and sends a frame addressed to a broadcast MAC address. Contained in the frame is a message with the IP address of the intended destination host.
2.Each host on the network receives the broadcast frame and compares the IP address inside the message with its configured IP address. The host with the matching IP address sends its MAC address back to the original sending host.
And finally:
3. The sending host receives the message and stores the MAC address and IP address information in a table called an ARP table.
Once the host has the destination MAC address of the destination host, it can send frames directly to the destianation MAC address without using APR.
Tuesday April 5th 2011:
I learned about how to use ipconfig on the the commandproupt and how to use different commands related your networking and how the computer copmmunicates with other computers on other networks and the internet. Also we watched a couple of vidoes about how to setup a router, the basics and how to configure it using firefox.
On Chapter 3, I read:
Adding hosts to local and remorte networks and it is possible to place all hosts on a single local network or divide them up between multiple networks connected by a Distribution Layer. Also adding additional hosts on a remorte network will decrease the impact of traffic demands.
Read about the disturbution layer, the functions of routers, default gateway, LAN, Prototypes, multi function devices , and sharing recources.
Wedneday 6th 2011:
Today we did some packet tracer review and I did the chapter 3 quiz. I also finished the chpater 3 test and got a bad mark of %57.1. I am disapointed because I understand most of the chapter but some of the questions had some terms that I did not understand and some of the questions were worded diffferently and therefore I did poorly on the test.
Thursday 7th 2011:
Today I started reading chapter 4 and we also went on packet tracer. As a class, we overviewed chapter 4.
The following is the general relevant information that I read today:
-ISP which are internet service provides
- ISP rel;ation ship with the internet
